Airproof Tester ASTM D3078 Blister Pack Sealing Test Machine

Testing the integrity of blister package seals helps ensure that the packaging provides required product protection.

Background

Ensuring the safety and quality of products during transportation and storage requires thorough testing of blister pack sealed packaging. This critical process enables ongoing enhancements in blister pack packaging materials and procedures. A secure blister pack seal is of utmost importance to maintain product integrity and protect consumer wellbeing. By conducting blister pack seal integrity tests, we can confirm that the blister pack packaging effectively shields the product from harm or pollution, regardless of the surrounding conditions. These blister pack tests also aid in identifying any potential blister pack packaging concerns, enabling timely measures to prevent any loss or hazards during the blister pack packaging phase. Blister pack seal integrity testing plays a crucial role in preserving the product’s quality characteristics and ensuring a superior consumer experience.

Test Description:

In this experiment, a blister pack sample is placed inside a water-filled chamber and sealed tightly with a lid. The control unit is then activated to create a vacuum in the chamber by removing air. The pressure difference between the inside and outside of the sample makes even a tiny leak cause air to escape from the blister pack sample. If there is a leak, gas bubbles will rise to the surface, making it easy to identify the location of the leak. This bubbling phenomenon can often be seen without any specialized equipment.

Standard
ASTM D3078 Standard Test Method for Determination of Leaks in Flexible Packaging by Bubble Emission

ASTM D4991 Standard Test Method for Leakage Testing of Empty Rigid Containers by Vacuum Method

Features
The initial release of the automated vacuum testing device known as the LT-02 Leak Tester, developed by Cell Instruments, is aimed at detecting significant leakage in flexible packages containing headspace gas. For this purpose, the designated test method is ASTM D3078, which utilizes the bubble release technique. To perform the test, a sample is placed in a vacuum chamber filled with a soaking solution.
  1. To create a reliable vacuum, we utilize a venturi tube which allows for a powerful vacuum of up to -90kPa. This choice is based on the ease of obtaining compressed air at the user’s facility.
  2. Our testing process includes a meticulously crafted and extensive time setting to ensure accurate and precise results.
  3. The vacuum pressure switch we use is sourced from the renowned brand SMC, known for its reliable and high-quality products.
  4. Our chambers are designed to be robust and transparent, offering a clear view of the process. Furthermore, we offer customization options for different sizes and shapes to meet specific requirements.
  5. This system can be easily modified to work with a vacuum pump, enabling the attainment of even higher levels of vacuum as required by ASTM D4991 standards.
